INC Charity Worldwide Walk Breaks Two Guinness World Records
The charity walk by the Iglesia Ni Cristo entitled "Worldwide Walk For Those Affected By Typhoon Yolanda" held on February 15, 2014 in different venues across 29 countries all over the world aimed to raise funds to help the people who were affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) achieved 2 Guinness World Record. As recorded by Guinness, the charity walk was participated by 519, 521 participants across the globe in 29 countries, 13 timezones and 135 sites within 24 hours. The funds raised in the event, which coincides on the 100th day since typhoon Yolanda wrecked havoc in the Philippines, will help the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
The first Guinness world record, "the largest charity walk in a single venue", was achieved as Guinness representatives validated a count of 175, 509 participants of "Worldwide Walk For Those Affected By Typhoon Yolanda" in Metro Manila, Philippines joined in the walk which more than doubled the previous record set by Singapore on May 21, 2000 with 77,500 participants who joined the "The New Paper Big Walk 2000". The validation includes the following requirements - the walker should have walked the entire 1.6 kilometer, should not have stopped to take a rest, a registered walker, should not be less than 8 years old, should be walking independently and should not be supported by anyone while walking. The tabulation and inspection was aided by the wristbands collected at the finish line for each walker which passes the requirements.
The second world record, "the largest charity walk done in multiple venue within 24 hours" was achieved after all venues were done with the charity walk having a validated Guinness count of 519, 221 participants beating the previous record set by Canada on October 2, 2007 with its 231, 635 participants at 1,011 different locations within its country whom each participant walked for at least 1 kilometer.
INC members all give the glory to the Lord God for the success of their charity walk activity.
